June Newsletter

Welcome to June! I hope everyone is having a fantastic early summer and taking some much-needed time to unwind and enjoy the sun & lake.

Player registration will be opening in the coming weeks. As stated in the last newsletter, we are currently transitioning our website from SportsEngine to Crossbar. This has proven to be an arduous task as all of our online content has to be updated and moved from one site to the other. With new software comes a learning curve accompanied by a few hurdles along the way. As soon as we go live with registration, we will be sending out another email and notifying you on social media. I appreciate everyone being patient.

A few items to remember regarding registration; your child needs a new USA Hockey number before you can register on our site (USA hockey rule, not ours.) Also, you will need to pay for raffle tickets upon checking out. Once you purchase the raffle tickets, which will be distributed in late October, they are yours. If you choose to sell them to family and friends, you keep the money. If you do not sell any or all, you simply put your name on the remaining raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the prizes.

Summer Sniper Program– We are slightly revamping our summer Sniper Program. Tony Huberty will be running the program and we are currently working with Calli Kermend to update our site and will be utilizing Google Forms to submit shooting totals at the end of the summer. Please encourage your kids to shoot and stick handle in the offseason. Summer shooting and stickhandling makes a big difference in skill development and player confidence! For more info, head to our website. We'll be putting more info on our FB page in the coming days. Thank you Calli for bringing Summer Sniper into the 21st century!

Non-parent coaches- We are always looking for non-parent coaches to coach our peewee/10u and bantam/12u teams. Please spread the word and have candidates reach out to Coach & Player Development chair Tony Huberty at Hubertytony@gmail.com. We would love to see an influx of non-parent coaches. That being said, non-parent coaches aren't exactly knocking down doors to coach youth athletics nowadays. So, if we don't get qualified non-parent coaches to step up, we do staff our teams with qualified parents.

We have a few new committees that we're in the process of building and putting to work ASAP:

Finance Committee- The finance committee will work closely with the board and our executive director to ensure our day-to-day and long term finances are compliant and meeting goals we've set out to achieve. Finance committee chair- Jeff Ojanen

Building Committee- The building committee will be working closely with the board and will act as a liaison to the City of Cloquet concerning ongoing and future projects on our campus. The building committee will work with CAHA, CAWHA, and the City of Cloquet to identify projects and funding sources to be completed. Building committee chair - Glenn Plante

College Wall Committee- The college wall committee is a temporary committee put together with the goal of creating a vision for a new college wall for Northwoods Credit Union Arena. Our college wall will feature all past and present NCAA boys and girls hockey players who dawned the Lumberjacks jersey. Committee chair - Andria Kvitek

Jersey Committee- The jersey committee is a temporary committee put together to design new home jerseys for next season. We will be replacing the home jerseys for squirts, peewees, and bantams. Our new home jerseys will be very similar to the Hockey Day Cloquet jerseys due to the positive impression the design left on folks. To spread out expenses, we rotate when jerseys are replaced. Last season the mites got new jerseys, after next season, boys away jerseys will be replaced, after that the girls home and away jerseys will start to be replaced, and the cycle will start over. Jersey committee chair - Tory Cawcutt.

If someone is interested and feels they can be a positive impact on any of the above committees, please reach out and I can put you in touch with the chairperson of the desired committee.

CAHA board member spotlight- Emily Stunek:

My name is Emily Stunek, and I am honored to have been elected to the Cloquet Amateur Hockey Association board of directors. My son, Kieran, will be a first year PeeWee this fall, and my husband and I have been actively engaged in the youth and high school program since moving to Cloquet in 2020. I currently serve as a CAHA board member (2022-present) as the acting secretary and as a member of the Girls Coach and Player Development committee. I have also been involved with coaching at the youth level in Cloquet (2020-2024) as well as with the Girls High School program (2022-2024). As a former player and now USA Level 4 certified coach, my passion for hockey and the lessons it has taught me, has fostered my desire to help our association continue to build an environment of success for our youth athletes that cultivates a competitive drive along with a love of the game. I currently work as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Endocrinology and Diabetes. Outside of hockey, I enjoy being involved with the CEC Boys Lacrosse Association as a board member, reading, fishing, and traveling!

Stay tuned for our registration email!

Have a great June!
